30^th ANNUAL DUNELAND WOODCARVERS SHOW

The 30^th annual Duneland Woodcarvers Show was held April 1^st and 2^nd at the Expo Center in Valparaiso, Indiana. Approximately 1,200 visitors came to enjoy the art of over 85 carvers.

An added attraction this year was our 3^rd annual chainsaw carving competition. Held on Saturday, 11 chainsaw carvers started at 10 a.m. and had 6 hours to carve an 18” x 5’ log using only gas powered  chainsaws. Although a bit noisy, the event was well received by the crowd. First place this year went to J. W. Denkins. Brent Butler was second with Tom Fink taking third and R. D. Coonrod receiving an Honorable Mention.

Judging inside was held Saturday morning with 171 entries in 37 categories. A special thanks go out to our judges; Clarence McCoy – an experienced caricature carver, Ed Leep – American Natural Resources, Griffith In. and Fred Holly – wildlife artist, Highland In.

Carvers Choice this year went to Henryk Krol and Mike Scherer had Best Table Display. Best of Show went to Pat Mikula Moore, as well as third Best of  Show. Second Best of Show went to Jerry Fleener. Congratulations to these special people and our other winners in first, second, third and honorable mention place order.

Our 31^st show next year will be on the weekend of April 14 and 15, at a new location. The show will be at Woodland Park. The address is 2100 Willowcreek Road, Portage, Indiana, 46368.
